AXE RECYCLING COMPLETED
THE CONSTRUCTION OF A WASTE SORTING PLANT
In October we completed the construction of a large sorting line. The complex can sort the waste stream up to 100 000 tons per year
Municipal solid waste sorting complex
Capacity 100 000 ton per year
Location Moscow region Russia
Commissioning
Waste type: MSW separating and separation of organic fraction
Equipment:
Tiger depack - 1
AXE press compactor - 1
Feeding conveyor - 1
Hand sorting post - 1
Magnetic separator - 1

One of the most important areas of our activity is the construction of waste sorting complexes. A waste sorting complex is one or more lines for the selection of liquid secondary raw materials from the general waste stream. Recycled materials are anything that can be recycled and reused: glass bottles, aluminum cans, all kinds of plastic, wood, and more.

The sorting complex performs three important economic and environmental functions at once: firstly, it does not allow plastic and other non-degradable waste to end up in a landfill, secondly, it prolongs the life of the landfill, preventing it from growing, and thirdly, it allows the waste carrier to reduce costs for transportation (after all, without recyclable materials, the volume of transported waste is much less).

TASK for our team of engineers was to make the system, which can easily separate organics from the general waste stream and receive the pure high-calorie RDF fuel.
In the process, due to the weight and high humidity of the waste, we installed reinforced conveyors with corrosion protection.

RESULT: thanks to installation of the Tiger Depack organic separator, organics are completely removed from the general flow, and clean high-calorie RDF fuel remains.

The sorting line is fully mechanized, the selection of secondary raw materials is carried out by workers manually. It is dumped from the conveyor into mesh containers, which are clearly visible in the photo below ↓
1. Chain feed conveyor.

Conveyor is used for lifting of sorted waste to a platform about 5 meters high - there is a sorting conveyor with posts for collecting secondary raw materials.

The chain conveyor due to its design can withstand a large load.
To reduce friction the chain is equipped with an automatic lubrication system →
2. Sorting conveyor on the platform.
Unsorted garbage passes along it, workers standing at posts along it select secondary raw materials and dump them down into special containers. Each post is responsible for its faction: plastic, aluminum, glass, wood, film and others. In total, there are 18 sorting posts on both sides of the conveyor. The sorting conveyor belt moves slightly faster than the infeed one, so that the waste is distributed more evenly.

← Safety first! An emergency stop cable is stretched along the entire conveyor. In the event of a danger to workers or other emergency situations, there is no need to run to the control cabinet - just press the cable and the line will stop instantly.
3. Separation of the ferromagnetic fraction (ferrous metals). At the very end of the sorting conveyor there is a magnetic separator. It extracts ferrous metals from the waste stream: iron, steel, cast iron and their derivatives. Since there will not be large pieces of metal in the container with household waste, it makes no sense to install a separate post for the separation of iron. And nails, screws, cans and other small things will be magnetized to the separator and will be thrown aside. The separator is installed perpendicular to the conveyor.
4. Everything that is not selected by the workers and the magnet falls on the reverse conveyor (No. 1 in the figure below). The reversible conveyor can move back and forth, so it can dump waste onto either the outfeed conveyor (#2) or the Tiger organic separator (#3). The photo also clearly shows the magnetic separator (No. 5) above the sorting conveyor belt (No. 4).

By the way, our project uses a unique solution: the reversible conveyor (No. 1) is located on a rotating support. If necessary, it can be rotated around its axis (to the left in the direction of the conveyor). This is a requirement of the customer: "tails" will be loaded into the moisture separation device by Tiger Depack Machine (No. 3) not only from the conveyor, but also "manually", using a front loader.

5. The outfeed conveyor (No. 2 in the photo above) takes the sorting "tails" out of the building of the complex. Tailings are non-sortable illiquid residue that will go to incineration or disposal at a landfill.
This is what the outfeed conveyor looks like outside the sorting building. It is specially located so high in order to load waste into a multi-lift or other truck →

From the moisture separation device, the tailings are fed into the press compactor - and also in the future they will be sent for incineration or to a landfill.
We complete our sorting plants with press compactors from the German company AVERMANN. In this case, the press model SP-20 is installed - it allows you to press a large weight - up to 18 tons into one container. At the same time, it is distinguished by low power consumption - only 7.5 kW. AVERMANN presses are adapted to harsh Russian conditions and can operate in extremely low temperatures ↓

6. Management of the whole complex is automated and carried out from the control cabinet. All functions are activated via a touch screen with intuitive controls and simple process indications. Using the software, you can change the speed, direction of movement of conveyors, as well as lubrication modes. All control is duplicated by physical buttons.
